Hi Paul, that's a great question. I think the main reason is that a good percentage of premium themes are built with a magazine-style layout, which looks good, and is good if you've got a blog with a ton of written content. In the case of setting up an EPN site, I like to try to make each site look as close to a regular e-commerce site as possible, and not look like an eBay affiliate site. I think if you don't take care in making your site look less like an affiliate site, you run the risk of visitors getting a bad first impression which leads to a high bounce rate. You want to capture their interest long enough so that they click on one of your ads. Bottom line, as long as you can make your site look somewhat unique, and avoid looking like a cookie cutter ebay affiliate like BANS sites do, it doesn't matter what theme you use.

I'm interested in your comment about WP Premium Themes, not being ideally suited to an EPN Affil Site - why do you think that is?

[...] Creating an EPN Affiliate Site from Start to Finish: Wordpress Elements You Need Posted on Friday, February 13th, 2009 in EPN Blog Start to Finish - Comments: (3) Ok, we’re almost ready to begin building the actual site. The last thing you’ll need to do before actually getting started is go get all the Wordpress elements you need to create the site. There are quite a few, but luckily almost all of them are free. Here is a detailed list of all the elements we need to create our EPN affiliate site and where you can get them. [...]

Thanks for sharing Trudy. This is a perfect example of how easily you can get accepted to EPN if you take a practical approach and put forth an offering of reasonable quality. Good luck!

Success - EPN accepted me - thanks to some handy hints from Sam
This is what I did to get accepted:
1.Set up a new site using contempo theme
2.I started writing blog posts relating to the keyword niche I had chosen. One of the great lesson's I learnt was that I can actually write! So for all you non-natural writers out there just start writing something and you will be amazed how many ideas just come to you on what you can write about.
3.I had about 15 or so blog posts which I had submitted over a 2 week or so period, possibly a bit less, some of which I back dated when I posted them. I added a picture to about 3 posts and a relevant youtube video to about 4 posts. I haven't done any SEO backlinking yet.
4. I included an about page, a home page and some authority site links in my blogroll.

They accepted me with this so my guess is that ebay are looking for sites with "good" content.

Pick a niche market and write blog posts about that over a couple of weeks or backdate them if you have had the domain hosted for a while. Then submit to EPN. This worked for me!
